Shia LaBeouf was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday following an alleged physical altercation during Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Variety has confirmed.
The “Transformers” actor was involved in an incident shortly after midnight outside a bar in the French Quarter, during which he received medical attention from paramedics. TMZ reported that a witness said LaBeouf had been escorted out of a nearby bar for unknown reasons, and the alleged fight occurred afterward. According to court records, LaBeouf is facing two charges of simple battery.
LaBeouf has had a history of erratic behavior and prior legal issues, including a lawsuit filed against him by FKA Twigs alleging sexual battery, assault and infliction of emotional distress. The lawsuit was settled in July of last year.
Prior to that, LaBeouf was court-ordered to attend rehab following a 2017 arrest in Georgia for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
In 2025, LaBeouf appeared in Leo Lewis O’Neil’s documentary “Slauson Rec,” which follows the actor as he leads and teaches at an experimental theater company. The film, which screened at the Cannes Film Festival, shows LaBeouf berating actors and crew members, instigating a fistfight and engaging in other aggressive behavior.
Variety‘s chief film critic Owen Gleiberman wrote in his review, “‘Slauson Rec’ is two-and-a-half hours long, and it’s little more than an endless dispiriting diary-like ramble. Yet it also functions as a vérité exploitation film, since the only thing in it that’s actually interesting is watching Shia LaBeouf parade himself as a kind of acting guru and mentor, only to descend into an increasingly furious and abusive and unhinged place that leaves us with the profound question, ‘What in the fuck’s name is going on here?’”
